Preparation is one thing an artist should consider prior to hiring a radio promoter to take their music to radio.
Fan base is looked at when most PDs are considering which artists to add to their playlist and there are a few things artists can do, outside of gigging, to build their fan base on line. In addition to sending out a press release, artist fans can be engaged to start sharing the buzz amongst their friends.
Setting up the music with metadata is essential so that program directors can file your music appropriately and, once registered with Sound Exchange, you can be tracked accurately for internet radio performance royalty payments as well as PRO accounting.
A One-Sheet gives radio information about the CD/single as well as the band and should be included with all hard copy submissions to radio. CDBaby offers a guide to creating one which can be accessed through our Helpful Links section.
Your bio should be updated and accurate and should be available for PDF download from your website as well as your EPK sites.
It's advisable to set up individual pages on your own website that hold not only the media player with an individual track but also the lyrics to help increase Google ranking as well as capture ambient searches related to your songs' themes. A cut by cut should be written that tells the story of writing each song, the inspiration for the song and any liner information associated with each song.
Metadata should be submitted to iTune's Gracenotes for database propagation and All Music Guide should be sent a copy of the CD, a bio and photos (CD format is fine) in order that radio can access information about you as an artist or band. (See Getting Started)
Customizing your Facebook Artist Page and connecting your networks for efficiency in updating and ease at building your fan base numbers is worth the extra effort.
Reverbnation has great analytics and should be considered as another network site for you and your music.
A DPK/digital delivery service account can be set up through AirPlay Direct, making it easier for programmers worldwide to find you, get to know you as an artist and access your music for safe downloading. RadioMavens includes this in our Radio Promotion Package if one has not already been established.
